UH WHAT

How is it the last weekend already?!

NO WAIT

How is the LAST weekend almost over?!

Saturday, November 28, 2009

I'm compiling a playlist of music..

that I've grown to like since being here. Most of them are songs that the clubs here are guaranteed to play...so I like them because I associate them with good times [I suppose]. Good catchy music you can dance to!

Cheryl Cole - Fight For This Love [not gonna lie, her outfit is a bit ridiculous but whatevs. It's a catchy song]

Beyonce - Sweet Dreams [yeah I don't even know... I blame Tom.]

...and I have no idea why Backstree Boy's "I Want It That Way" is tacked to the end of that video.

La Roux - In For the Kill

Black Eyed Peas - I Gotta Feeling [they will play this song at least twice]

Oprah freaking out in this video cracks me up everytime.

David Guetta ft Akon - Sexy Bitch [Oh god this song...it's so bad, and yet so good. It makes you want to dance, I GUESS?!]

and of course......

KINGS OF LEON - SEX ON FIRE [honestly I didn't realize how big this song was until I got here. I mean I heard it on the radio in the States, but THEY WILL PLAY THIS SONG AT EVERY SINGLE EVENT. NOT EVEN JOKING. ANYWHERE. YOU ARE GUARANTEED TO HEAR THIS SONG.]

I still love it. "Sex on Fire" is an awesome sing a long no matter where you are. Everyone gets excited when they hear those first few notes.

wednesday/week 9

So here we are at week 9. I have about three weeks left here in Norwich. It's slowly dawning on me that my time here is limited and now I understand why all the past-EAP students urged us to do a year versus a semester. Just when I've fully adjusted to life here at UEA and made some awesome friends, it's almost time for me to go.

I've been aware of our limited time for awhile now, but I don't think it hit me until earlier tonight when Phil mentioned how Flat 3 wanted to go to LaserQuest because Rachael was also leaving and he said he wanted all of us to go so that he could say goodbye to me, Caitlin, and Bonnie. I guess all good things must come to an end, cheesy as that sounds.

Honestly, I'm so happy I decided to study abroad. Today, as I sat around in my seminar for New Media and Society I listened and realized how different it is going to be to go back to a school where people don't speak with British accents! I've strangely become accustomed to hearing them...although I will admit there are times when I don't understand what people are saying because they roll all their words and I just stupidly nod and smile. Haha!

As we're now in week 9, I really need to start getting down to business! But first, my last weekend adventure...I'm visiting Miranda this weekend in Paris! I'm so excited!

waitng for vureel to load SUPERNATURAL

after megavideo cockblocked me and stopped me from finishing the third episode of the season! UGH. I'm only ten minutes away from being done! I need to know what happens next!

I just finished my 7th week here at UEA. Time is moving way too fast now and I'm starting to dread the end of the semester. I really should start taking more photos and videos to document my time here.

Sometimes I just CAN'T BE BOTHERED (a wonderfully English phrase that my friend Tom has introduced me and Caitlin too...and now we can't stop using it to annoy him) to whip out my camera though. I will try to do so (and to upload things) especially because I know I don't want to forget anything.

One thing I know I definitely won't forget is the amount of junk food I've been consuming since I've been here. Here's a list that I made of all the food that will contribute to my STUDY ABROAD 30!!

CARAMEL DIGESTIVES

HARIBO TANGFASTICS

COOP CARMEL CHOCOLATE SHORTBREAD THINGS

DOUBLE DECKERS

WALKERS SENSATIONS BALSAMIC VINEGAR AND CARMELISED ONION CRISPS [CHIPS]

i really should be reading about pedofiles on the internet right now

but I'm listening to MIA right now and updating my blog. Epic night last night.

  • booze run to Tesco
  • back to flat 3 where we talked for a bit, but it was awkward since people kept walking in and out and us Americans were stuck there alone sometimes
  • finally took a cab to the Waterfront (which is the concert venue in Norwich), met up with some American Army guys who tried to get us to go a pub with them. We went into the Waterfront and used their toilet and went outside only to be told by Phil that everyone else had went straight to the Castle (the gay pub/club in Norwich).
  • took another cab to the Castle. It was a blast dancing with everyone....and then half the group left because someone didn't have their ID so it ended up being the four Americans and Phil, who later told people he was from California.
  • someone finally came out and someone finally confessed to a grush
  • ahhh tequila shots
  • piggy back rides!
  • getting ~low~
  • there was a creepy Goth guy who insisted on giving us kisses. FREAKY.
  • this guy said I look like Lane from Gilmore Girls
  • came back to Orwell Close where we saw Tom's light on so we ran up to his room and watched "Friends" and he forced us to listen to "progressive house" music and other things and forced us to watch Family Guy clips.
  • I cannot believe I stayed up until 6 am talking to them...but I was ready to pass out the entire time. As soon as a I saw the sky getting lighter I knew it was time for me to leave.
  • basically, it was a night I know I'm not going to forget for a long time.

i'm pretty sure i'm going to look back at my time in england

and think about this song. i'm in love with this song!

what to say

I can safely say I am throughly enjoying my time in Norwich/abroad. I was quite homesick the first couple of days and weeks, mostly because I couldn't believe I was actually going to live in a foreign country for three months; away from my parents, away from my friends, away from what was familiar. I lost my wallet as well during the first week so that sort of exacerbated things.

Now however, I'm having so much fun. I love my five day weekends. I love being able to travel with Caitlin and Bonnie on the weekends. I love hanging out with my flatmates and Caitlin's flatmates (hahaha). I love poking fun at my English flatmates for their strange eating habits (mayo and pizza?! Really? HAHA) and I (sort of) like it when they poke fun of my American accent (to-may-to vs to-mah-to or how Mary, the cleaner, makes fun of me when I say the word "sandwiiiiich" vs her "saaandwich"). I love our flat dinners. I love pizza and card night with flats 4 and 5. Life is fabulous right now.

Caitlin, Bonnie, Bo, Margot and I are going to Scotland next weekend and I'm so excited. We're going to Glasgow and Edinburgh and I absolutely can't wait to visit the birth place of quite possibly my favorite boy wizard, HARRY POTTER! I want to visit Elephant House where JK Rowling started writing Harry Potter. Oh my gosh, I'm so excited.

ah facebook scrabble

you are always so addictive.

Good times playing you instead of making powerpoint slides that I don't need for my dumb class. Disney music goes best with facebook scrabble.

IT HAS BEEN A MONTH!

since I've arrived in London, England. It is still completely surreal to me. I've been so bad at keeping up with this blog but I suppose I will try to update as much as possible.

Orientation:

was actually a lot of fun! The UC Study Centre [how very British of me] people, Monika and Kum-Kum are super nice and managed to make us those of us who were feeling a bit shocked and homesick [including myself] feel better about everything. They managed to jam pack a ton of activities. On the first day we went on tour of the River Thames that I unfortunately fell asleep during because I was so jetlagged, but I did wake up in time to see Daniel Radcliffe's old school! After that we all walked back under the heavy London rain to the study centre where we had pizza and some informational lectures about life in England and other academic stuff. I didn't have much of an appetite but did eat a little bit...I also tried the legendary Jaffa Cakes for the first time ever! It was pretty good I have to say, but at the time, I didn't think they were mind-blowing. We trooped back to our "hostel" which was really the London School of Economics dorm building in Bloomsbury. I was in a single, but Caitlin was sharing her room with Nicole, a fellow Davisian, and they had an extra bed in their room, so I joined them. Beats staying by myself. Our giant group tried to go to this swanky pub down the street from our hostel but we were a large group and the pub was really fancy so it was a total FAIL. So we walked around the neighborhood some more until we went until a slightly emptier one. Fun times! We played 10 Fingers and everyone was shocked that I have never had a cavity! Haha. We were all introduced to a drink known as "Snakebites." lulz. After the pub shut down, we walked back and crashed for the night.

The second day we left early and headed to the Tate Modern and had a guided tour for about an hour. The museum is super nice and had lots of interesting pieces. After the tour, we were let loose for lunch and we walked along the South Bank, which was super touristy, but I got to see the London Eye up close! Caitlin and I shared a chicken burger pack that we picked up in a convenience store. We had a walking tour afterwards around Westminster and got to see, or walked by, Parliament Building, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Downing Street and some other places that aren't coming to me at the moment. Our tour guide was this really witty, cute British woman. We had an hour after the tour to "explore" Covent Gardens but really we all hit up the Carphone Warehouse to get our "mobiles". I got the cheapest phone that looks like it was made in 2001. Pretty basic but for 5 pounds I can't really complain. Dinner afterwards was fantastic! We ate in some hotel and the food was fabulous, but the best part was the next activity. WE GOT TO SEE WICKED! Now I had seen it in San Francisco, and while I liked it a lot, I couldn't see why people were fanatical about it. Only after I saw it in London, I finally got it. The Fiyero in London was also a billion times better than the one in San Francisco. After the show, a bunch of people in our group went clubbing, but Caitlin and I walked around Bloomsbury on a quest to find a store that was still open and that would hopefully have laundry detergent! We eventually gave up but picked up some onion rings to try out the CURRY DIPPING SAUCE! I love that they have that in London. Amazing.

The third day, our group split in half. Those of us going to University of East Anglia had to say goodbye to the other half who were going to University of Manchester. We hopped on our coach and drove about three hours northeast to UEA! I fell asleep during the drive, but not before catching some of East London and the English countryside. Lots of live stock and greenery. We were greeted by some UEA students who were kind enough to help us with our luggage and get us our dorm keys. Caitlin, Rachael, and I all were placed in Orwell Close so that's where we were dropped of. Each of us are in different flats, but it's nice that we're so close to each other.

UEA:

The first couple of days we were basically the only students on campus. International students all arrived a couple of days before home students, I guess to give us time to settle in? It was a bit scary being alone in my flat, with no internet by the way! But it turns out there was someone else in my flat that night, so that wasn't too bad. We met Bonnie who is also from the States and lives in Caitlin's flat. The four of us ended up at the Waffle House where we had super delicious savory waffles and afterwards, caught a cab to Morrison's, which Caitlin described as a "super Safeway", to pick up some food and essentials. The next couple of days were full of boring lectures about life at UEA. That Saturday though, the rest of my flat moved in and that was a bit exciting. I really like all of my flatmates. I think we all get on [ohhh Britishism] quite well. We've even had two flat dinners so far that we're super delicious. :)

I am currently taking three classes at UEA: The European Economy [boring], Economics of Film and TV [not too bad], and New Media and Society [love it]. The best part, however, is that I only have class on Mondays and Tuesdays! That's right! I have FIVE DAY WEEKENDS! Haha. But those extra days are really meant for private study. SIGH. I need to get on that...but those five day weekends come in handy when it comes to weekend trips abroad!

OUTSIDE LANDS

was a lot of fun. I signed up to volunteer so I could get in for free and....I don't know....I guess it was worth it because I got in for free and got to see a few bands, but I kind of feel like I spent all day in the tent [which isn't bad because it was so hot today]. The festival is definitely pricey but it would have been nice if I didn't have to work. I guess sneaking in would have been the best option. hahah.

Basically, I sat in a booth and helped festival goers exchange bottles and cans for points and prizes, kind of like an "adult Chuck E Cheese" [a phrase I heard way too many times]. I worked with a bunch of other volunteers who were all pretty cool, but there were times when I felt awkward because I didn't really know any of them. Everyone had their friend with them while I was alone. haha. This is a clear example of how I can be very socially awkward. I did talk to a few of them and even talked to this guy about FOTC and It's Always Sunny which made my day.

So the few bands I got to see: Portugal. The Man, Bat for Lashes, a bit of Jason Mraz, the end of Deerhunter, and a bit of The Mars Volta. They were all awesome, but Bat for Lashes was amazing! Maybe it's because this was the one performance that I was looking forward to, but oh my god, it was perfection! Nastasha Khan is a goddess. Her voice was amazing! And her band was so cool. HER SET. Oh my god, she had a badass wolf tapestry, twin angels, a Jesus figurine, a crow, and star wiring around her mic. AMAZING. The two guys behind me were hilarious because they kept raving about Natasha and how gorgeous she was and how they were going to die when she played "Daniel." They I found amusing. There was another couple in front of me who were more annoying...what is the point of taking myspace photos of yourself with the performer in the back? You just look like a dumbass, sorry. And it's not like they did it once, they did it several times: one for the guy, one for the girl, and three times as a couple. Is that really necessary? And then these two girls pushed forward and started dancing, which was kind of funny, but I felt bad for the people in front of me/directly behind them because their arms were all over the place. Anyway, those slight annoyances couldn't deter from the brilliance of Bat for Lashes. It was fantastic.

Side note: her roadie was this British guy whose accent amused me whenever he said "Check 1, 2, 3." I don't know how I'm going to live in a country where everyone sounds like that. I might just die from the cuteness.

Anyway, here's Bat for Lashes - Daniel

idk what to title this

My last day of work was yesterday and it was surprisingly, bittersweet. I've sort of been looking forward to the end of my internship only because I hated having to wake up so early everyday. It's taken me awhile to realize this, but I'm not a morning person. During the first few weeks of my internship, I was actually somewhat diligent and went to bed pretty early, ensuring at least 7 hours of sleep. Towards the end though, I went back to my natural habits and slept later, leaving me with 5-6 hours of sleep. Which was really bad. There were times when I caught myself dozing off during the day. Just yesterday afternoon, I found myself almost leaning my head on the shoulder of the guy next to me on the bus. Really embarassing. :( So anyway, the last day finally rolled around and I actually spent my last hour on facebook and twitter. HAHHA. There wasn't much for me to do and they actually planned a pizza party for me [which was really sweet] so I was told that I could just surf the internet. YAY. hahah.

Everyone I worked with was really nice and they even gave me a card! I was really touched and I think I'm actually going to miss going into work. THREE WEEKS OF UNEMPLOYMENT HERE I COME.

OK. Back to "Mad Men"!

I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS FAN VIDEO BY THE WAY. I WATCH IT AT LEAST TWICE A DAY.

I'M GOING TO PARK MY CAR IN THE GARRIAJJJ

Oh my god these videos are cracking me up.

I am almost tempted to try out these words when I head over there...just to see what the reaction would be like.

bullet points

  • I've finally started watching "Mad Men" to see what all the hype was about and it is actually very good. Like most shows, it starts off slow and then slowly builds up. Season 3 premiered last night, but I'm still on season 1! Ugh. Must catch up soon.
  • I just scored tickets to AVATAR DAY! Yes! I'm pretty excited about this because the footage they showed at Comic Con was supposedly mind blowing. Plus I'll be able to sneak into some other movies afterwards as the footage they're showing us is like twenty minutes long. Definitely want to see "Inglourious Basterds" and maybe "Post Grad"?
  • LAST WEEK OF WORK! I'm kind of excited, but kind of sad because I won't be getting paid anymore.
  • Add "School of Rock" to movies that always make me happy. The kids are so cute.
  • Miranda just referred to East Anglia as the "IOWA OF ENGLAND." HAHHA. Well that should be interesting.
  • Finally decided to send in my HP laptop for overdue repair. It sort of died on me back in June, but suddenly decided to work again so I didn't send it in. However, my mom's been pestering me to send it in because what if it fails while I'm abroad? So I'm paranoid now and spent 40 minutes on the phone with tech support. The guy said I have the best password he's heard of thus far. Awesome.

so um

this movie was pretty fanfuckingtastic.

ONE MORE WEEK OF WORK!!! And less than a month until I leave. I'm "anxious excited," definitely.

oops

I really should update this more often...and not just with youtube videos. Unfortunately, I feel like my days aren't exciting enough to warrant a post. Basically this is what my schedule is like:

7:30-8:00 am: attempt to wake up
8:00 am: pulled out of bed by either my mom or my dad
8:00 - 8:20 am: eat breakfast and get ready for work
8:20 - 8:25 am: double check that I have everything and tie my shoes. Maybe a last minute bathroom session.
8:25 - 8:30 am: my dad drives me to West Portal station
8:30 - 8:32 am: attempt to walk/run into the station without being run over by MUNI trains
8:33 - 8:40 am: get on a train headed downtown
8:40 - 8:50 am: get pushed around by other people while on the train and try to avoid briefcases and backpacks that may hit me or people who stand and read magazines.
8:50 am - 8:57 am: walk one block to 101 Montgomery and try to avoid the pee [?] or water [?] on the sidewalks
8:57 - 9:00 am: kill time in the elevator and maybe a potty break
9:00 am - 1:oo pm: attempt to do work. I finished the Financial District photo project ahead of time and for awhile, started cleaning up the Walnut Creek office's drive by deleting files and copying and pasting, but then I was assigned a new photo project. This time SOMA! Hooray.
1:00 pm - 2:00 pm: take the L home/walk up the hill to my house [perhaps the most exercise I get everyday]
2:00 pm - 2:30 pm: eat "lunch"
2:30 pm - to whatever time I go to sleep: feeble attempts at being productive, mostly watch shows online, swimming [?!], etc etc.

So you see, not very exciting. I've also realized that I've stopped my photo a day because my days really aren't that exciting....and my camera's totally dead and I have yet to recharge it. OOPS.

oh god so awkward

"I had just put the casket in the hearse and I was watching it drive away when a beautiful blonde woman comes up and embraces me," Ryan told me. "I said to her, 'You have a drink on you? You have a car?' She said, 'Daddy, it's me--Tatum!' I was just trying to be funny with a strange Swedish woman, and it's my daughter. It's so sick."

zzzzzz

Alright.

So I think I need to start sleeping earlier. Lately I've found myself semi-dozing while brushing my teeth at night. Not very fun when you stop and can't remember if you flossed or not.

Also, this weather is very depressing.

wut

How.....

What....

Why.....

Yeah, I don't understand how "Never Gonna Give You Up" and "Smells Like Teen Spirit" work together. But they do.

How cute/hilarious is this picture by the way?

I love them so much! Can't wait til they're all reuinted.

Ahhhh....full 8 hours tomorrow at work.

RANDOM THINGS

  • Blogger is being annoying and just erased my entire post
  • This scene killed me. My stomach actually hurt from laughing so hard. Mac and Frank's faces just add to the hilarity.
  • Aunt Irma is kicking my ass.
  • Wicked was awesome...well it got about 10x better after the intermission when we moved to the back of the theater and didn't have a giant staircase obstructing about 55% of our view. The sets and lights were AMAZING!
  • HP6 was enjoyable. Some things bugged me, like Harry's lens less glasses and the lack of memories [HOW ARE THEY GOING TO KNOW THAT TOM RIDDLE LIKED TO COLLECT HOGWARTS THINGS?] but I've learned over the years to go in with very low expectations. That seems to work. Gambon and Emma Watson both toned it down so that was nice. The movie needed more Weasley twins though [THREE MINUTES OF THEM IN THEIR JOKE SHOP WAS NOT ENOUGH!] and hot!Lupin.
  • I really need to stop borrowing dvds from the library. I just checked my record and it turns out I owe them $15 in fines! WTFFF. I just paid off my other $13 about a month ago! OKAY. From now on, I'm going to have to stick with tvshack.net and youtube. Here I am trying to save money by borrowing dvds from the public library instead of buying them and now I'm stuck with a fee the same amount as a regular dvd! UGH.
  • Work is okay...I'm just glad I have a job. But I really need a second one...

Currently watching/reading

I've heard so many good things about "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" so this was definitley on my list of TV shows I must watch. I have to say...it's good. It's fucking good. I'd say it's almost as good as "Arrested Development"...like AD just beats it by a little. I watched a random episode a couple of months ago, but wasn't really into it. I think with most shows, it's best to start at the very beginning. "It's Always Sunny" is definitely in my Top 5 favorite shows.

It's really funny and I'm curious to see what the movie adaptation will be like. Michael Cera does not seem like Nick Twisp to me, but who knows. I find it hilarious though that Zach Galifiankis has been cast as Jerry, who I imagined to be some balding, fat old man.

I finally started the photo project! Note to self - bring a sweatshirt or coat when taking photos.

Monday, July 6, 2009

okay...

The photo project is actually a lot harder than I thought it would be. Essentially I'm going to have to field test/start this project for someone else to do in the future because it is going to take forever to complete it!

They want me to take a photo of every single building in the Financial District and while that might sound simple, it's actually not. I also have to look up the parcel numbers, save copies of the parcel maps of each block, and export the basic stats of each building using their really complicated databases. After that I have to upload all of this information into the office database for future use. Hmm. It sounds kind of simple now that I've typed it out, but I was so confused when my supervisor explained what he wanted. Maybe I was just hungry at that point and the lack of food made me unable to comprehend things.

Anyway....July 4th was pretty fun. No fireworks this year, unfortunately [yes I wanted it to be a tradition! Foggy fireworks!], but we went to the Legion of Honor for free which was pretty nice. I've never been there so I was excited. We did our best to recreate the Vertigo shot but it was kind of a fail since the Carlotta painting is no longer there. After wandering around some more we ended up in the Print Graphics library where we were "treated" to what was basically a lecture by the nice old man who worked there. I feel bad, but I couldn't stop laughing because it was so AWKWARD. Angela and I basically nodded and said "mmhmm" the whole time. Finally we escaped and met up with Patrick. I managed to convince him to let us walk his dog. Angela kept mention several ways we could hurt him and surprisingly, or not surprisingly, we managed to ALMOST hurt him several times.

We trekked down to the beach and Diana and Janet met up with us. Everyone, except Jenny and I, climbed up this rock. After running around with Mac and trying to stop him from running into the water [potential yeast infections, according to Patrick], we went over to Pagan where I used my measly connection and got us free dessert.

Janet left after dinner and the rest of his went back to the Sunset and karaoked for about an hour. EPIC. Especially when Angela had to sing this song by some hapa guy that had a video filled with sequined shirts and fabulous dancing.

Thus concludes my 4th of July!

google maps is the best part 2

Wow! I finally got to work on something that was a little more stimulating than copying and pasting at work today!

After an hour and a half a of the same old same old (yes I've been copying and pasting/archiving files this whole week), I was finally asked to do do something different. My supervisor had me look up various post offices in different states and I had to screen cap the google map street view of these buildings. It was very exciting. Iwas so happy to finally not be doing the same old redundant task.

And I've been told they have this project just for me! I'm going to have to go around the Financial district and take pictures of the different office buildings for their database! Yay!

And no work tomorrow! :)

google maps is the best

I'm tempted to buy tickets for the Bat for Lashes UK tour but the problem is I have no idea which date is closest to Norwich and I don't know my schedule either. I suppose the London dates are the closest but I have no idea how long it'll take me to travel, which is kind of important since the dates are Monday and Tuesday. =/ Plus tickets are kinda pricey....ughhh.

I guess I can always see Bat for Lashes at Outside Lands. Tickets for that is extremely expensive but the good thing is that it's in GGP so it might be possible to sneak in. Or I could volunteer to get in for free...

Work was boring today. After the mandatory training seminar [which was two hours long and made me feel as though I were in high school again, but whatevs, it's paid], I walked several blocks to the office and then copied and pasted more files. After a half an hour, I was invited to grab lunch with a couple of the workers [I guess they're my coworkers now...? Though it's weird to say that since I am on the lowest rung of the coporate ladder. I don't really see them as my peers...] which was really nice, but awkward. The place where we ate was sort of like a buffet...$8.95 for a pound of food! I silently weeped for my wallet as I walked around. I tried to put light food items on my plate but it still ended up costing around $7.40 including tax. :(

Anyway, it was awkward because they talked about their personal lives and coworkers [office gossip] and just sat there listening to the conversation. I mean, it's not like I could really chime in or anything....plus I was kind of preoccupied with the meatball that seemed determined to land on my pants.

my baby shot me down

So the other day Spike had a Kill Bill marathon (though I'm not really sure if it's really a marathon if there are only two volumes..? Anyway) in honor of David Carradine which was awesome because I love those movies so much.

After watching both back to back I went on imdb.com like I always do after watching movies and read the ridiculous message board postings. I had no idea, but apparently there are two different versions of the Crazy 88 fight? Anyway, someone posted a link to the original [which is in color], seen only in the Japanese version of Vol 1.

Pretty cool!

Oh and today was my first day as an intern for Integra. I basically copy and pasted files for about 4 hours but it's paid so I can't complain. I need to find something in addition to to this internship because I need to start saving up for the fall! I'm even skipping Comic Con because I'm going to be so poor. :(

My History of Film Music paper is due tomorrow by 4pm and I haven't picked a topic yet.

I'm really stressed out....and I don't know what to do.

I'd really like to crawl back into bed right now and not think about finals and money and summer.

Saturday, June 6, 2009

I went back in my posted links on facebook

and found the first thing I ever posted

Another song that I forgot how much I liked.

CMN 3 final in about 12 hours. I haven't studied but I'm not too worried. It shouldn't be too hard.

I'm really stressed out right now. About a lot of things.

There's a thunder storm outside right now

I can't believe that tomorrow's the last day of class. This year went by extremeley fast. I can't say it was as fun as freshmen year, but it was enjoyable. For the first time, I am not looking forward to summer because I have no idea what I'm doing.

Listening to this right now:

The Greatest - Cat Power

I don't even know why [and I'm slightly ashamed to admit it] but I liked "17 Again"...a lot actually. It was a cute movie and let me escape for about an hour and a half. Plus the soundtrack is pretty good.

FLIGHT OF THE MUTHAUCKING CONCHORDS

So the show as fanflippintastic!

It started almost an hour after it was supposed to because the 6pm show had some fire alarm problems or something. While we were waiting outside, we could hear snippets of them performing.

Anyway, we go inside and I almost died because our seats were so close! I sat in the very upper part of the balcony last year at Nob Hill so this was awesome. The first thing I noticed was Sheila and Misty's little red piano! It was sitting right on Bret's table!
We sat around some more waiting...I used the bathroom but because they roped off the women's restroom, my friend and I used the men's room after we saw a few women in that line and this guy had told us it was "half and half." Let's just say walking out of the men's room was one of the most awkward moments of my life. WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL THE WOMEN?! Oh gosh...anyway...

Back inside, the theater started filling up. I noticed the scalper guy who was selling tickets outside the theater had come in and was talking to a couple sitting in the row in front of me [I was in pit row 3] so I'm guessing he sold them their seats. Then my friend and I realized that HE AND HIS LADY FRIEND WERE SITTING PIT ROW 1 CENTER SEATS.
Maybe I should explain that I have seen this guy a bunch of times at the Curran Theater trying to scalp Jersey Boys and Spring Awakening tickets. He's making a living off scalping the hottest events.  If you buy a scalped ticket to some popular event in the Bay Area, you're probably buying it from this guy. HE IS EVERYWHERE. My friends and I were annoyed and shocked.

Finally around 9:50 or something, the Live Nation guy comes out and then Arj quickly follows [after Jemaine's Ronald Chevalier-esque intro]. He was hilarious! I love that he made so many jokes that seemed to be for Bay Area audiences. It was clear that he was happy to be back home.
After his set he made us all promise to follow him on twitter and to subscribe this his mailing list.

Bret and Jemaine came out and immediately went into "Too Many Dicks" which was epic of course. They both got really into the dancing, Bret especially. He kept thrusting that disco ball codpiece.
Jemaine called us "San Francisco" which was amusing to me, since I am from San Francisco, but we were in Berkeley. hahah. He later said that the 6pm show told him he should refer to the audience as "Berkeley" but that he was just going to call us "Bay Area."

I have the actual setlist so I'm just going to go down the line [the order may have been different, e.g I think Jenny was before Carol Brown, but I'm not sure]

Too Many Dicks- afterwards, they had a bit of banter regarding the song. Like how it was based on true events and such. They broke down the song and analyzed it as well..."Then we say 'Too many dicks' about eight times...." "The second verse was about morality."

Hurt Feelings - BRET PLAYED THE LITTLE RED PIANO DURING THIS SONG! I'm sorry I didn't get a video of it.

Stana - was awesome. I managed to resist listening/watching the youtube videos of this and I was blown away. I loved it! The red lighting was a nice touch. After the song, Bret totally called out this guy in the front row for recording the song and then giving up because it was too long.

Sellotape - I almost died from excitement when they started playing this. One of my favorites and to hear it live was amazing. But we didn't have an epic sing a long like they didn't in LA last year, but oh well. It was still epic. They did the banter in between about Bret putting envelopes to his heart and mailing them.

Carol Brown - Jemaine had omnichord problems again [reminiscent of last year..hah] and he joked about it being in ROCK 1 and that we were lucky it wasn't in ROCK 2 because we would have all been blown away. The weird thing is they didn't have us be the choir...? I don't know why. I was really looking forward to it.

They introduce Nigel and talk about how the New Zealand Orchestra originally had a few more members like Bruce and some other name that I don't remember right now and how now it's only Nigel. I think it was around this point that somebody yelled out "BRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCE!" and Jemaine was confused and said something like "Was that Bruce's original fan? The sad thing is that also sounded like 'Booo!" Hilarious. So Nigel comes out looking suave and stuff in hat and sunglasses.

Jenny - OH MY GOD HOW GORGEOUS DOES THIS SOUND WITH THE CELLO?!
I was so excited when they started playing it. The sad thing is some of the people around me seemed clueless [well the couple next to me didn't even know where they were from.. ] or maybe they were just better at containing their excitement. I'm sure I probably annoyed a lot of the people around me with my constant screams.

Muth'uckas - Bret got behind the drums for this one! Some people cheered when they got to the "EVERYBODY COME ON" part.

Epileptic Dogs- Bret got behind the keyboard for this one! I was dying during the remix part.
Unfortuantely, I only got a few seconds of the strobe light on video...oh well.

I'm Not Crying - they got the sad lightening. Bret asked for lighting that would "remind the audience of a time they don't want remember." Bret made sax noises with his mouth and then Jemaine joined in, and then they both got Nigel to join in!

H vs R - all I can say is, I was impregnated by Jemaine's potent rhymes.

Same Girl/Sugalumps - I've been dying to see this one in person and I'm sure you all knew why.
I laughed so hard during the "CELLO DAWG WHY ARE YOU CELLOING IT UP WHEN WE'RE TRYING TO HAVE A CONVERSATION OVER HERE DAWG." "JEMAINE DAWG" "YEAH DAWG?" and well, Sugalumps...we all know what happened. Jemaine sat on the edge of the stage on his side whilst Bret came over to my side and did his beckoning and reaching back thing. The best part of course was when he took that girls' camera and started taking photos of his crotch and Jemaine then came over and took the camera and aimed it into his pants!

Lights went down...everyone cheered for an encore. It seemed like forever until they came back out.

Finally Bret, Jemaine, and Nigel come out. Bret's now wearing the Band Meeting tshirt and once he gets onto his stool, he talks about the merch available. He takes off one, to reveal a smaller Band Meeting shirt, and then another, until it was his own blue tshirt left. He said something like "This one's mine....so you can't have it because there's only one."

Business Time - everyone's favorite of course. Mark [I think?] played drums!

Bret says something like "Oh what should we play next?" And so of course I couldn't help myself and shouted "Bus Driver's!" while the girl in front of me shouted "Frodo!" but Bret heard the guy behind us who shouted "Freebird" so they did that and it was hilarious! "Why is a woman trying to have a relationship with a bird?"

Bus Driver's Song - I don't know if I could explain how excited I was that they played this. I actually squeed and the people around me laughed at me. I doubt they played this because they heard me, but I'd like to think that they played it because they did.

Sometime during the encore [or was it towards the fake ending?] they thanked all the crew members, like Matt, Mark, Amy, and Kimberly! It was so sweet.

Albi - loooooooooooved it. I loved the colors of the rainbow lighting.

Then it was over. Bret and Jemaine asked us to stay put so they could take a photo of the audience and that was it!

I went up to the stage afterwards and asked Mark for the setlist and he gave it to me.

The merch table was crazy packed but we made our way to Arj who I talked to a bit and got a photo with. He yelled at my friend to delete a photo because he thought he was blinking. haha. And he signed my season 2 poster. Whilst talking to him, a couple of ladies went up and said hi to him and he told them that they were going into the City for an after party [probably the main reason why they didn't stay after for a meet and greet].

We went outside to where the tour buses were and the crew people made us all wait on the side walk across the street. There were maybe 40 or so people? It was cold but we were all patient. The crew people kept yelling at us to get back on the sidewalk. At one point, Mark [god I hope that's his name] came out with the robot heads and my friend and this other girl ran forward to get them. My friend was kind enough to give me BRETBOT [that's what's written on the inside]. Some people asked to take photos with them and so it made it's rounds. After awhile some crew person told us they left but we all stayed put, and then after some more time we ran back across the street to the theater. We watched the white tour bus drive away and then some more trucks. Someone told us they left an hour ago and so the crowd began to dwindle. Some crew people were still there...including Mark. haha. Finally it was just the blue tour bus and there were maybe 15 of us left? We waited and waited some more...watched TBS through the tourbus window....until the blue tour bus drove away. And then we all dispersed. A bit disappointing, but I guess it wasn't too much of a shocker.

All in all, IT WAS AN AWESOME AMAZZZZZZZZZZZINGGGG SHOW!

TONIGHT

After waiting for 4 months and 23 days, May 25 is finally here. FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS TONIGHT!

Let's just hope and pray that we don't end up homeless tonight.

Things that are currently annoying me

  1. Everyone in my family. I can't say I'm looking forward to coming back for the summer.
  2. My dad giving me shitty directions while driving.
  3. Idiot tourists who don't know how to jaywalk.
  4. Driving downtown. I know, I know, you should never drive downtown, but I had to. Public transportation is the way to do it.
  5. This cold weather in San Francisco
  6. The pair of jeans that I bought a couple of weeks ago. Either I gained a ton of weight, my butt grew, or they shrank. :(
This made my night a little better:

I love Bones and Dave.

two days

If there is a God, please do not let me get my brother's fever/throat infection/whatever so that I can enjoy FOTC to the fullest on Monday

Why is it so cold in San Francisco? I felt like an idiot yesterday walking into PPQ last night because I was still wearing my khacki shorts while everyoen was wearing their scarves and coats. Oh well, I got to satisfy my craving for satay beef pho.

OMG

MEAN GIRLS ON ABC FAMILY

why does this cheesy ass shit make me emotional

Because I'm PMS-ing?
Oh wait. That's right. I am a loser who will probably die alone. Not even with cats because cats don't like me.

I am currently listening to MJ's "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough" and I have yet to start on Spanish homework.

MTV showed "True Life: I'm Addicted to Porn" again tonight. One of my favorites only because of that one scene where that guy is sitting at his desk, watching porn, and suddenly turns the the camera and says "This isn't doing it for me." Suddenly the "Ten minutes later" graphic pops up and you see him standing in his kitchen. All he says is "I just masturbated." LOLOLOLZ.

I normally find feet gross, but I actually like this picture. A lot.

classy as fuq

Things that make me happy right now

- The fact that the weather is much more bearable now.
- My swimming aerobics TA knowing my name. I don't know why, but it made me really happy when I went up to him to check in and he knew who I was without telling him. I still think it's funny how he offered to pull me out of the pool that one time I complained about my arms being too sore to push myself out of the pool
- The IT Crowd
- summer's coming
- popsicles
- getting hella freebies from school
- "UP" coming out really soon
- HP6 also coming out really soon. I said that I wouldn't but I'm probably going to see it at midnight because I'm a loser like that.
- naps
- the random drunk guy screaming outside my room right now
- the fact that my legs don't look so pale anymore
- my current score on Word Challenge. I will probably never beat Vincent's 33,000+ score, but I'm going to try anyway.
- FOTC in about 4 days
- the movies that we get to watch for MUS 115
- the Star Trek GQ motherfucker memes. Example: BONES
- rediscovering this song. I forgot how much I liked it.

FIVE DAYS

After waiting for almost four months, the show is almost here!

FIVE DAYS
FIVE DAYS
FIVE DAYS
FIVE DAYS
FIVE DAYS

also, I can't stop listening to this

Back to this CMN 3 assignment.

Why you shouldn't fall asleep in class

"Consider the following study. Researchers are trying to see how credibility,
emotional tone, and message topic relevance affect effectiveness of Public
service announcements (PSAs). They did not conduct an experiment to
collect data, so they decided to use multiple regression analysis to
determine how these variables affect PSA effectiveness.
They reported the following statistic
R2 = 64%, p < .01
Credibility β = .40
Emotional tone β = .32
Message topic relevance β = .11
Based on these please identify whether these three variables influence PSA
effectiveness. If so, how big is it overall? Is it significant? What is an
individual contribution of each variable? Is it positive or negative? Is it
statistically significant?
If researchers had run an experiment what other statistical analysis they
could have used to determine causal relationship between these
independent variables and PSA effectiveness?"

WHAT?

I have no idea what any of this means. Guess I'm going to have to go through all the slides now.....

note

Dear lightning bolt underwear,

I love you. I consider you my lucky pair. I always seem to have good days when I put you on. I actually set my newest high score on Word Challenge whilst wearing you.

But I think you were having an off day today. I can't even count the number of times I had to pick at my butt in public because of the wedgies you were giving me. How embarrassing. Please go back to being awesome, comfortable, and wedgie free as soon as possible.

Yours truly,
Cynthia

I can't stop listening to this.

My Love - Justin Timberlake

Ever since Jenny showed me this quote from youtube:

"his voice sounds just like Mickey Mouse and is cool at the same time "

it's all I hear now. HAHA.

JT, you are one charming mofo. I somehow manage to develop a crush on you every time you are on SNL. [/fangirl]

I am a youtube addict.

So if you know me, you know that I'm a bit of a youtube addict.

And I'm also a procrasinator. So instead of studying for my midterm tomorrow, I'm going to post some of my favorite youtube videos.

"Scarlet takes a tumble"
One of the funniest videos I've ever seen. Oh Scarlet. I love the fact that you posted this on youtube even though this happened. I love that you changed out of your flats into heels and still decided to get on the table. I'm sorry to say that I laughed for a very long time watching you moan and groan on the floor for a good minute. But that's why this is one of my favorites.

Some videos just leave me speechless. The only words that manage to escape are usually "WHAT" and "WHY?! WHY?"  This is one of them. tinaecmusic stripping for all her fans and "sexy men."

Then it gets better with her apology videos. I'm not ashamed to admit that I frequently have tinaecmusic meltdowns.

Continuing with the trend of people who should not be on youtube, here is doglover199709 doing her version of "Disturbia." [She's disabled embedding]

More children on youtube. This one isn't creepy at all. It's actually really cute.

So I was really addicted to this song about a month ago, all thanks to Janet. I couldn't stop listening to this stupid song....it's actually my most played on itunes because of all those nights I kept listening to it on repeat.

So today is Mother's Day and everyone's jizzing their pants over last night's SNL Digital Short. Andy Samberg and JT finally followed "Dick in a Box" with "Mother Lover." I liked it but it's definitely not as good as "Dick in a Box" which is still my favorite Digital Short [Lazy Sunday is a close second.]

Justin's one of my favorite SNL hosts....and Bill Hader's one of my favorite SNL cast memeber. I want a guy like Bill Hader. I think he's perfect.

I actually liked "Watchmen" and I'm kind of sad that a lot of people hated it. Here are two youtube videos that added to my "Watchmen" love.

This one made me miss "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles." CARTOON PIZZA LOOKS SO FUCKING GOOD.

Angela just found this for me. "My Immortal - A Dramatic Reading" never fails to make me laugh. If you don't know, "My Immortal" is an infamous Harry Potter fanfiction that has exploded in popularity, mostly because it's so bad. There are a ton of "Dramatic Readings" of "My Immortal" but this one is the best, in my opinion. Take a listen.

Okay I just saw this video...like minutes ago and it's already one of my favorites. Why don't we have cool things like this in the US?

Okay, now for something not as moving. "Touch My Body/Karaoke Fail" is another video that never fails to make me laugh. Mariah is one of my guilty pleasures..and so is this video. I LOVE YOU FIERCE KOREAN BOI.

More MUSIC FAIL. Here's LFO's "Summer Girls". Some of the worst lyrics ever, but just like "Tuts My Barreh" it makes me laugh.

Something that's actually intentionally funny. "Summer Heights High" is one of my favorite shows and Ja'mie's one of my favorite characters. I almost cried watching this for the first time. Chris Lilley is a genius.

Another one of my favorite shows is "Spaced." I give this video to everyone on their birthdays.

I'm such a fan girl for Pegg/Wright/Frost. I love this vlog so much.

I miss MCS so much. I haven't seen them in over a year. I think the last time I saw them I told JP that I was going to make a sign asking them to play "Shiver" the next time they were in San Francisco. Here's one of my favorite MCS youtube videos.

Oh my... I almost forgot to include this. The best show of my life = MCS @ Great American Music Hall on 7/7/07. We wrote a petition to get them to play "Throwdown." Fun fact = "Throwdown" was my first MCS song [off the Doghouse Spring/Summer 2003 sampler]. Here's what happened:

Speaking of shows, I'm going to see Flight of the muth ucking Conchords on the 25th. That's only 15 days from now! Here's a video from when I saw them last year. Caitlin and I lost our shit at the end of this song. I think you'll see why.

Janet showed me this the other day. I laughed.

ETA: WOW. WOW. HOW COULD I FORGET THIS ONE? This one is a classic. Victoria's just a playa lyke dat.

And I think I'm going to end this post with my one of my favorite FOTC videos. Enjoy.
